The Lookouts

She perches high above the clouds. Her stalwart friend close at her side. He knows her thoughts, at times before she thinks them. Her golden eyes mirror his.

They live within each other, and for each other.

Their fire binds them. Hers lays banked deep within her soul, waiting, ever waiting. His rumbles deep in his chest, and appears when needed. He would burn the world away if necessary to keep her safe. She feels the same, although she stares down at the world below them.

Her heart is stalwart and true. And, she would sacrifice them both should it ensure the innocents they guard remain innocent one day longer.

He loves this about her, and knows he will do anything she asks of him. They are forever.

The red calls to them as it hums within their skin and blood. It wraps around them calling out to its partners held within the flames. Yellow, orange and red holds them tight in their arm as they wait within the blue, until the coming black encompasses them.

Night's dark blanket keeps them warm and safe as they venture below to safeguard their world, and each other.
